Make certain parameters mandatory

Did you know that the parameters you are using within QC One inspections can be made mandatory?

Updated over a week ago

QC One offers the ability to designate specific parameters as mandatory, ensuring no inspection is completed without vital information. Here’s how it works and what you need to know:

What Does “Mandatory” Mean for Parameters?

When a parameter is marked as mandatory, inspectors will be required to fill it in before they can complete an inspection. This ensures that the most critical details are always captured without fail. To make these mandatory parameters stand out, they are visually distinguished with a bright blue border.

Setting Up Mandatory Parameters

At this time, marking parameters as mandatory can only be done by the QC One team. If you know which parameters should be mandatory for your inspections, simply reach out to the support team. They will guide you through the process and ensure the parameters are updated accordingly.

Key Points to Keep in Mind:

  1. Mandatory for All Templates: Once a parameter is made mandatory, it will apply to all inspection templates. This means you cannot set a parameter to be mandatory for specific products (e.g., only for apples or only for pears). Plan carefully when choosing mandatory parameters.

  2. Inspector Experience: Inspectors will see mandatory parameters highlighted with a bright blue border and will not be able to finalize their inspection until all these fields are completed. This visual cue makes it easy to identify what’s required.

Upcoming Improvements

The good news is that this is one of the features that will soon be available directly to users with the release of the Specifications Manager. In the Specifications Manager, users will have full control over whether a parameter is mandatory by using toggle buttons in the specifications builder.

This update brings another major advantage: parameters will be made mandatory for the specific specification rather than being automatically applied to all templates that include the parameter. This provides greater flexibility and precision in how you manage your inspections.

Benefits of Using Mandatory Parameters

  • Improved Data Accuracy: Ensure that all critical information is collected every time.

  • Standardized Inspections: Avoid gaps in reporting and maintain consistent quality standards across all inspections.

  • Enhanced Compliance: Stay aligned with internal and external quality requirements.
